Queens Walk 5km from Hobart |

The playground is part of a large park on a picturesque foreshore. There is usually plenty of close parking, including disabled spots.

Designed mainly for younger kids and toddlers, it does have a separate fenced climbing frame, good for older kids.

The park is a perfect place for a picnic with a large oval opposite for more serious play! There is one BBQ with covered seating. Toilets are about 100-150m from the playground.

No dogs in the playground or on the beach, but they are allowed on a leash in the park and foreshore track. Dogs are allowed off-leash in the opposite oval.

I have bought kids of all ages here for a long time, and they always have fun. Play at the playground, grab an ice cream at the kiosk and wander down to the foreshore to watch the birdlife – all is good! Please do not feed the birds.

The Boathouse Kiosk and Boathouse Restaurant are next to the playground.

Cornelian Bay was named by British navigator Lieutenant John Hayes in 1793. While exploring the Derwent River, Hayes came ashore and discovered numerous reddish, semi-precious carnelian stones (a variety of silica also called cornelian) on the beach, leading him to name the area after the gemstones.
